Less than five years after its inception, the ROK’s fledgling military found itself fighting for the survival of its new nation on June 25, 1950, when North Korean troops crossed the 38th parallel to invade South Korea. The United States assisted the newly-formed ROK in establishing a constabulary force on January 15, 1946, as the new nation’s military force.
